You Died; Now what? Five things to know
Filed under: Aging & Longevity, Baby Boomers, Death & Dying
Yesterday, we lost one of our oldest, closest friends, he was 68. Buzz had been sick and in and out of the hospital for a couple of years. Sure, we had probably four months to mentally prepare that he would be gone soon. When that moment comes, when that phone rings, you just aren’t ever prepared. Made me think. What will be my legacy after I die? After you’re gone and people think of your name, then what? Is one of the goals to leave them with a smile?
Buzz was larger than life, 6’ 7” to be exact. He lived his life to the fullest and burned every candle he could find – cowboy, racecar owner/crew chief, Boy Scout leader (he didn’t have children), a Chairman at the largest Rodeo in the world (earning this from hard work and passion, not politics), a commercial contractor, always giving summer jobs to kids who needed to experience the reality of the dollar and where it came from. He encouraged those around him to be more than they ever dreamed of and gave them the “hammer” to do it.
His last two years and death were examples of how he lived, “let’s try it all”. Dealing with heart disease, cancer, loosing a kidney, daily dialysis, being bucked from his horse and thrown in the air my his pet Longhorn steer. He came back from death’s door at least six times and smiled on his way out.
At his memorial service this week, there will be people from all walks of life, from hourly wage earners, to the presidents of some of the largest corporations in America. All with their own stories of how Buzz permanently effected their souls.
What are some of the ways to leave ‘em smiling?
1.) honor your passions and your values
2.) find your soul and live by it; seize the day, take the time, make
the moment count
3.) love, encourage and support those around you; family, friends,
those attracted to you
4.) go out on the limb for your beliefs; do the work; follow your
vision of “what could be”; give of yourself
5.) live with the least amount of fear and negativity; create the fun
and laughter
What will be your legacy after your death? You can’t guarantee you’ll leave them smiling, but why not take the chance?

My Holiday gift to you
Peace + Joy = The Meaning of Life
So here we are once again celebrating Christmas. WOW!! How fast this seems to come around! My wish for you is twofold. One, I wish you PEACE. Peace in your heart. Peace with your families and friends. Peace in your mind, especially looking to the future.
Secondly, I wish you JOY. Joy to continually fill your heart. Your mind thinking of joyful things to do with those you love and care about. This will create the memories that slow down the passing of time. Joy, giving you a reason to get up everyday. Looking for and creating Peace and Joy in your life will show you the “meaning of your life”. My gift to you – something I learned while studying for my coaching master’s degree.
Secrets to Having the Life You Want
These are simple, though not necessarily easy to learn. You will accomplish much more, more easily, if you take the time to first strengthen yourself. If you need to work on more than five of these things, then you might want to consider coaching around these areas to deal with them once and for all!!!
Believe why you have to put yourself FIRST for anything to be different.
Seek to make your life perfect, as it is today, even if it doesn’t look or feel that way.
Know and live proactively for your life and find what kind of energy this needs.
Decide that you want to learn, continuously and forever. Then open up to learning.
Discover, reorient your life around the gifts you have, the things you do well and like.
Put your integrity first, your needs second and your wants third.
Allow yourself to Believe and to Dream to have it all, even if it feels like too much.
Before you create a future, resolve the past and perfect the present.
For an effortless life, strive for more than you need, more than you think you deserve.
Invest 10% of your time to maximize the other 90%.
Set your goals based on your values, not on “could’s”, “would’s”, “should’s” or
“wills”.
Start on your path to Financial Independence even if it doesn’t seem realistic.
Stop trying to change your behavior, instead, start shifting and evolving.
Triple your personal boundaries until your heart and spirit have the room they need.
Stop hanging around people who have less to lose than you do; less to lose in time,
energy, passion, giving to others, being involved, etc.
Stop waiting for anything. Instead, initiate 100% of the time.
Solve your problems, even if you didn’t cause them.
Build a community of people who bring out your best without trying to; they are positive for you and share your values.
